Sacked OUT

Robbie is in the midst of building the screen door for our porch and needed to buy a mortising tool, so he and Riley took a drive down to a store specializing in fine woodworking tools early this evening. When they got back home Riley was completely and totally sound asleep, and despite our efforts to wake him for dinner, he would not wake. We got his jeans off and put him to bed and now have an unusually quiet evening here. Robbie's out in the shop and I've gotten a bunch of photos edited--what a treat!

One thing about their trip to the store before we go on to pictures etc. Robbie and Riley had a talk about appropriate behavior at the store before they left home and Riley promised that he would stay with Robbie, not grab every single thing off the shelves etc. Ummm hmmm. You know what happened. All of the above plus the addition of Riley singing All Around The Kitchen Cock A Doodle Doodle Do the whole entire time they were there. Robbie said the staff were peering at them and he was nearly beside himself just trying to think clearly in all the din. All the parenting books say that age 4 is all about exuberance and expansive, out-of-bounds energy and I think that was really showing itself. Whew.

Though I will say that All Around The Kitchen IS a pretty catchy tune. Shall we hear Mister Dan Zanes sing it?

And now on to some photos. Riley and I went up to Robbie's Hinkle grandparents yesterday to visit and had a fine time. Among other things we trotted about their huge yard in the gorgeous fall weather and attempted to visit the goats. The goats declined, but we did get to pet their gorgeous dog, Ethel, who's 1/2 shepherd, 1/2 Great Pyranees and 100% sweet. Riley discovered some WWII bombs that have been cut open to create planters and was utterly fascinated by them.

What is it with the bombs? I don't know, but he was enraptured by them!

Standing by a bomb.
I must say it became a bit tiresome for momma, who does not share the fascination with weaponry and wished him to get away from the road already.

And finally, I've been able to do some sewing of late, and I have just completed an apron that I'm pretty excited about. Given that I seem to spend about 98% of my life preparing meals or cleaning up from meals, I decided I might as well have an apron that at least added some flair to my tasks, so I made the Sew Liberated Emmaline. It's reversible, and I choose two contrasting fabrics. I got the retro dot fabric from Reprodepot, of course, and found the cool Lady of Guadalupe fabric on line at Hancock fabrics. I think it's about the sassiest apron ever in all the land.

What a cute, groovy fabric!

Mmmmm. Lady of Guadalupe-y
